The Fibres We Choose
Alpaca — Nature's Performance Fibre
Soft as cashmere, warmer than wool, and more durable than either. Alpaca fibre has been prized for centuries across the Andes for its exceptional properties, and today it remains one of the rarest and most refined natural materials available.
What makes alpaca exceptional:
- Thermal regulation — hollow-core fibres trap air, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer without bulk
- Low pilling — longer, smoother fibres mean the sock keeps its look and feel, wear after wear
- Hypoallergenic — contains no lanolin, making it naturally gentle on sensitive skin
- Odour resistance — natural fibre structure resists bacterial growth better than synthetic alternatives
- Exceptional softness — fine-grade Peruvian alpaca sits alongside cashmere as one of the softest natural fibres in the world
We source our alpaca from Peru, where the highland breeds produce the finest quality fibre. It is then spun and knitted in Britain — a journey that brings together two great textile traditions.
British Merino Wool — Structure and Performance
Merino wool is breathable, resilient, and versatile. Its natural crimp creates microscopic air pockets that insulate without weight, while the fine fibre diameter — measured in microns — determines its characteristic softness against skin.
We use fine-gauge merino for our dress socks because it has the structure to hold shape in formal shoes while remaining comfortable across a full working day. Breathable, temperature-regulating, and naturally odour-resistant — it's everything synthetic fibres attempt to replicate, achieved without compromise.
Lambswool and Cashmere
Our growing knitwear range extends the same philosophy to outerwear. Lambswool — the first shearing from a young sheep — is exceptionally soft and resilient. Cashmere, sourced from the underbelly of Himalayan goats, represents the pinnacle of fibre luxury: incomparably light, warm, and soft to the touch.
Every fibre we use is chosen because it genuinely outperforms the alternative — not for the label, but for what it delivers in wear.
Made in Britain
We partner with mills and manufacturers in Britain with decades of experience in natural fibre production. British manufacturing brings two things that matter to us: a measurably higher quality standard, and the ability to work closely with the people making our products.
British sockmaking has a long and distinguished history. The East Midlands hosiery trade — centred around Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire — developed the fine-gauge knitting techniques that remain the benchmark for quality today. Our socks are knitted on traditional machinery that allows the precision and consistency that natural fibres require.
This isn't about nostalgia. It's about the fact that the craft knowledge required to produce a genuinely excellent natural fibre sock is concentrated here, built up over generations.

Every product we make must meet the same criteria: exceptional source material, skilled British manufacture, and a design built to endure rather than impress briefly. We don't follow seasonal trends. If something doesn't meet the standard, it doesn't carry the half british name.
